((*cracks knuckles* Finally not feeling sick/dehydrated/minorly-semi-depressed, so let's just put up what we've got in totally random order. Huge thank you to everyone who actually put in the work to make this happen, and sorry for disappoint everyone with the lateness.))

As of right now, almost a week after the original deadline, I've only received half of the fics. I'm really disappointed, because I received NO notices from those who would be late.

For those of you kind enough to be paying attention, what do you suggest I do?

You lucky ducks.

Due to real life (possibly including mermaids that are *almost* as fabulous as Jojo) as well as a request from a participant, writers now have until Monday, May 24 at 11:30 PM here in New York (click for countdown as usual).

Please e-mail me your completed works by then. Artists, if you have revised your work in some way, please e-mail me as well; otherwise, I will use the completed works you sent me almost a month ago.

So uh, something came up in real life for me at the last second, so I'm not going to be at my computer again until Saturday. Given that, I'm going to extend the deadline for art submissions to Saturday, May 25 at 6 PM here in New York (click on that to get a countdown). Writers should check in here, logged onto Dreamwidth, sometime on Sunday to see their options and choose what they'd like to write.

For the four of you that have already submitted: thank you kindly! Your art has been universally awesome so far and I can't wait to see what happens next. \o/

For reference: we have one submission each involving Diamond is not Crash and Stone Ocean, and two submissions involving Steel Ball Run. (Good thing I'm almost done reading SBR, huh...)

Quick reminder that you have one week left to draw, artists!

When you are finished, send your at-least-mostly-finished work to me in any of the following ways:
email kawaii dot dragoness at gmail dot com
Twitter DM @kawaiidragoness
Tumblr Message kawaiidragoness

PLEASE DON'T REVEAL YOUR ART PUBLICLY JUST YET. (We will be making a new Tumblr for it when it's done, plus posting here, but don't reveal before reveals!)

If you need to drop out, I will be very sad, but please contact me as soon as possible using one of the methods listed above.

If you're a writer and rereading the manga and/or rewatching the anime, I hope it's going well for you! Please be sure to log in next Friday to see the private post with the art previews so you can pick which ones you fancy!

So yes, signups are closed! Thank you all for signing up: we've got a great turnout of twelve pairs!  (One person has not formally signed up but confirmed with me on Twitter that she was participating.)

Everyone who offered to do both is, yes, being asked to draw. Thank you for your generosity!

But for all twelve of you who offered to draw: time to get to work! Remember, it's got to be done - or at least really, REALLY close to it - by May 23, 2013 at 11:30 PM here in New York City. (What is that where you are? Click me to find out.)

Feel free to tell us here in the comments of this post what you're thinking of drawing - or not! Keep it Jojo-related, of course. Solo shots, couples, or n-somes are welcome, however your lovely hearts imagine them, within JJBA canon or AU or whatever else! But two notes:
  • I'm going to discourage crossovers, for the sole reason that I cannot guarantee that writers have seen whatever other canon you're referencing.
  • I'm also going to ask you to tell us in advance if your art is going to be R-18+/NSFW, just as a courtesy to everyone else. (I for one am okay with writing smut, but I know it's not for everyone!)

For those of you who offered to write: time to catch up on the manga, because I cannot guarantee that specific parts/characters will or will not show up! And nothing here will be spoiler-shielded either, as a warning.

Also, if you as a writer have some ideas you'd like to share, feel free to do so in the comments - but remember, mentioning them gives NO guarantee that an artist will pick them up. As a writer, this challenge is all about your flexibility! But of course, if an artist is stuck/blocked and they happen to see an idea you propose that inspires them, that's a nice thing. :)

Thanks again for signing up and making this happen - I'm very excited to see what we create together!

SORRY, SIGN UPS ARE NOW CLOSED. There will hopefully be other challenges in the future though, so don't be afraid if you didn't get in this round!

The results are in: our first challenge will be a reverse bang, so artists will go first! Both artists and writers need to sign up now though. Please remember to sign up for Dreamwidth and join this community first!

Comment below with the following to sign up:

Dreamwidth Username:
Artist, writer, or both? (You will not be assigned to yourself.):
Are you willing to pinch hit? (If someone drops out or we have an uneven number of participants, pinch hitters will be asked to contribute something extra. It's okay to be willing to pinch it art or fic but not both, even if you are willing to normally contribute both.) :
Are you willing to beta/review? (If someone wants someone else to look over their work before the final deadline, can you give constructive criticism and help? Again, it's okay to be willing to do this for art or fic but not both.)
Other forms of contact (optional; if you're more active on Tumblr or Twitter, this is a good place to mention it):

YOU HAVE UNTIL MAY 2, 2013 AT 11:30 PM EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME TO SIGN UP.
IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST, YOU HAVE UNTIL MAY 23, 2013 AT 11:30 PM TO FINISH YOUR WORKS. Remember, works should be complete, colored/shaded JJBA fanart that can inspire someone to write at least 5,000 words of fanfic. We'll talk about how to submit next JojoBang Friday.
IF YOU ARE A WRITER, WATCH THIS SPACE: ART PREVIEWS WILL BE POSTED PRIVATELY TO THE COMMUNITY MAY 24, 2013. That's when you'll get to pick which ones inspire you! Keep in mind that you can't predict what the artists are going to create - consider this month a good chance to brush up on the manga, or finish it if you haven't already. :3

Yes, I plan to update this community every Friday, either with deadlines or just update/check in posts, because I too have missed Jojo Fridays. Consider it a tiny way to fill the void before the release of All Star Battle and/or the Stardust Crusaders anime!

WHAT IS THIS?
A Big Bang/Reverse Bang captures the same idea in two forms: creators of one kind of fan work inspire creators of another, and these paired works are released all together in a "bang" of sudden fandom activity. In a Big Bang, writers create fanfics, and artists illustrate them; in a Reverse Bang, artists create fanart, which inspire writers to write. It encourages collaboration between writers and artists, gives people deadlines to work on fan works, and results in a beautiful lovely pile of fanwork all at once! Everyone wins!

The results are in: people wanted a Reverse Bang for the first challenge. Future challenges will most likely alternate back and forth between standard and reverse forms, depending on community interest.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING:
  1. GET A DREAMWIDTH ACCOUNT if you don't already have one! You don't have to use it for anything else if you don't want to, but having everyone here is ideal. I'll try to post regularly on Tumblr for major deadlines, but seriously, this is best. You can even get an RSS feed for this community if that's what you prefer. (Or just come every Friday.)
  2. JOIN THE COMMUNITY. There's a link on the profile page. As stated, works will be kept secret from the public until final reveals; there is one point where participants will see summaries/previews that are not meant for public consumption.
  3. VOTE: Writers First (Big Bang) or Artists First (Reverse Bang)? It's okay to not have a preference! If this is successful, we may reverse the decision for the next challenge, so don't worry :3 Please post your vote in the community, even if you've already stated it on Tumblr; it's easiest to keep everything in one place.
  4. Start thinking of which you'd rather do (write or draw) and what you want to create if you go first. Remember, works must be at least 5000 words for writers or fully completed, colored, and shaded for artists - and keep in mind that whatever you create should be able to inspire someone else!
  5. SIGN UP.
OPTIONAL STUFF I'D REALLY APPRECIATE:
  1. OPTIONAL #1: HELP SPREAD THE WORD! Tell all of your Jojo fan friends that this is happening! The more people we have, the more successful this will be, and the more diverse and wonderful fan works we will get!
  2. OPTIONAL #2: CREATE GRAPHICS AND OTHER PRETTIES! I'd love a banner for this community to spread around on here and Tumblr - if you've got a great one up your sleeve just comment! Even better, if you know CSS and can make a theme for this community, let me know! My only request is that you try to keep it as part-neutral as possible: we will accept prompts from all eight parts of the manga.
  3. OPTIONAL #3: CONSIDER JOINING ME IN MODERATING! I thiiiiiink I can do this, but it is my first time running such a contest (though I've run other Livejournal/Dreamwidth communities under different names), and I'm all writing, no art. If you have insight into such things, drop me a line! EDIT: Thank you to [personal profile] onepixeljumpman for stepping in!
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE, SUBJECT TO CHANGE:
All times are as my computer says here in New York City (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC -4). Generally, expect posts (signups, check in posts, summaries/previews, assignments, final work posts) to be posted on Fridays, and for due dates to be Thursday nights (so I can have Thursday night/Friday morning to prepare posts dependent on what people hand in).
  1. VOTING continues; voting will close April 25, 2013 at 11:30 PM.
  2. SIGNUPS begin April 26, 2013 and continue until May 3, 2013.
  3. ROUND ONE GENERALLY COMPLETE WORKS ARE DUE MAY 23, 2013 at 11:30 PM, including short summaries (if writers go first) or preview images (if artists go first).
  4. SUMMARIES/PREVIEWS ARE POSTED, LOCKED TO MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, ON MAY 24, 2013. Round Two creators are asked to rank the previews in order of preference; preference will be followed as much as possible for matchups.
  5. PREFERENCE LISTINGS ARE DUE MAY 30, 2013 at 11:30 PM.
  6. ROUND TWO ASSIGNMENTS ARE SENT OUT MAY 31, 2013. Creator pairs are encouraged to work together to make their works as wonderful as possible! If Round One creators decide to edit their works at this point to better reflect Round Two input, that is fine!
  7. FINALIZED WORKS ARE DUE JUNE 20, 2013 AT 11:30 PM.
  8. WORKS ARE POSTED JUNE 21, 2013. At this point, they are public - feel free to share them everywhere!

A POLL

One way or another, this challenge will bring together writers and artists for a glorious celebration of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure!

There are two ways this challenge can go.

OPTION A: WRITERS FIRST (Big Bang)
Writers write their fanfics (minimum 5000 words) and post summaries of said fics. Artists choose from that summary list which fanfics they are willing to illustrate, and are assigned accordingly; then artists are tasked with creating new, completed, colored/shaded artworks based on the fanfics previously created.

OPTION B: ARTISTS FIRST (Reverse Bang)
Artists create their works (must be completed, colored/shaded, and new) and post previous of said art. Writers choose from the previews which artworks inspire them to write, and are assigned accordingly; then writers are tasked with creating fanfics at least 5000 words long based on the fanart previously created.

Please comment with which one you'd prefer, or if you have no preference!

EDIT: Dreamwidth accounts are free, no invite code required! PLEASE GET ONE IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE. The summaries/previews WILL BE LOCKED TO MEMBERS OF THIS COMMUNITY to preserve the surprise until final reveals!
